Opening in June next year, the Hornby store will take pride of place in the ‘The Railyard’ shopping centre – an exciting new retail development in Christchurch’s west. Comprising of six buildings, with a mix of double and single storey buildings, the complex will replace the Equestrian Hotel which is being demolished after more than 50 years.
When it opens, the Hornby store will be the fourth Smiths City store in Christchurch alongside Smiths Northwood, Smiths Colombo Street, and Smiths Colombo.
Tony Allison, Chief Executive, said the store in Hornby marks an exciting new chapter for the business – a Kiwi institution in Christchurch since 1918.
“Smiths City celebrates what it is to be a Kiwi – warm, straight up, honest. This attitude, combined with our thoughtful and knowledgeable service, our extensive range of high-quality and trusted brands, and our determination to deliver the best value furniture and appliances, is really resonating with our customers.
“This is particularly the case in our home market, Christchurch, where our stores are reasserting themselves as an anchor offering in successful retail developments,” Allison said.
The Hornby store is also geared well to the growth of Christchurch’s outer west.
“It will bring Smiths City’s proven proposition within easy reach of the fast-growing Western Suburbs of Christchurch.
“We are really excited about the development and are looking forward to opening the new store in early June next year.”
