SMITHS CITY (2020) LIMITED IN VOLUNTARY ADMINISTRATION
Smiths City (2020) Limited ("Smiths City" or "the Company") was placed in Voluntary Administration as of 8:30a.m., Tuesday 2 September, 2025. The Company's director appointed Colin Gower, Licensed Insolvency Practitioner and Diana Matchett, Chartered Accountant and Licensed Insolvency Practitioner, both of BDO Christchurch, as Joint and Several Administrators ("the Administrators").
All nine Smiths City stores and the online shop were temporarily closed, while the Administrators undertook an urgent assessment of the Company's financial position, and a stocktake across the stores. This assessment and stocktake were completed on Friday 5 September.
Customers who have paid deposits have been contacted directly by the Administrators, with the majority receiving specific information regarding their orders. Some remaining customers will be contacted again in the coming days.
Eight of the nine Smiths City stores reopened for a liquidation sale. The stores in Auckland and Christchurch reopened on Friday afternoon, 5 September, and the stores in Greymouth, Oamaru, Alexandra, Gore and Invercargill on Saturday 6 September, at 9:00a.m. The liquidation sale will run for a limited time only and while stocks last. The Dunedin store will remain closed.

TERMS OF TRADE
Administration
Colin Anthony Latham Gower and Diana Clare Matchett of BDO Christchurch were appointed as voluntary administrators (the "Administrators") of Smiths City (2020) Limited (Administrators Appointed) ("Smiths City") on 2 September 2025. Smiths City is now in voluntary administration.
Gift cards
Gift cards will not be accepted as a method of payment for goods.
"As is, where is"
All goods being sold by Smiths City during the administration are being sold on an "as is, where is" basis.
No refunds
There will be no refunds, returns or exchanges of items in respect of goods sold by Smiths City during the administration.
No warranties
All representations and warranties in respect of any good sold by Smiths City, express or implied and whether statutory or otherwise, are expressly excluded to the maximum extent permitted by law.
Limit on liability
If the Administrators or their representatives are found personally liable in respect of any matter relating to the sale of goods:
(a) such liability will be limited to the lesser of:
(i) $5,000; or
(ii) the value of the assets for the time being of Smiths City in the hands of the Administrators (in their capacity as administrators of Smiths City) at the time when judgment is entered or execution thereon issued; and
(b) no purchaser will have recourse to either or both of the Administrators' personal assets, or to the personal assets of their representatives, nor will they petition or otherwise seek adjudication for bankruptcy of either or both of the Administrators or their representatives, in respect of any liability, claim or judgment.
Other — conflict
In the event of a conflict, these additional terms of trade shall apply and prevail over any other Smiths City terms of trade.
