Airpoints is taking off – for good this time.

After three pretty choice years, our partnership with Air New Zealand’s Airpoints™ programme is coming to an end.

From 1 July 2025, you’ll no longer be able to earn Airpoints Dollars™ when you shop with us.

It’s been a great run – fridges, beds, TVs, washing machines (and oh so many air fryers) helping Kiwis get a little closer to their next trip. We’re proud to have been part of it.

So, what now?

• You can keep earning Airpoints Dollars on eligible purchases until 30 June 2025
• Any Airpoints Dollars you earned before then will still be added to your Airpoints account
• After that, it’s business as usual – you’ll still get all the same stuff you know and love from us, just without the flight perks on the side.

As a proudly local and NZ owned retailer, we’re always balancing what we offer with what it costs to deliver. This decision is part of a broader effort to manage costs smartly, without compromising the parts of your Smiths City experience that matter most.

Our focus remains on delivering you ways to bring value home – like sharp deals, local stock, and proper local service.

Our Airpoints programme might be flying off into the sunset, but we’re not going anywhere. You’ll still find the same great deals and service, whether you’re shopping for the big stuff, the everyday stuff, or just popping in for a yarn.

1. When is the last day I can earn Airpoints Dollars at Smiths City?

You can earn Airpoints Dollars with us until Monday 30 June 2025. After that, purchases made in-store or online will no longer be eligible.

2. Will the Airpoints Dollars I’ve already earned still be added to my Airpoints account?

Yes – any eligible Airpoints Dollars from purchases made before the end date will still be processed and added to your Airpoints account.

3. Can I claim Airpoints Dollars after the partnership ends for a previous purchase?

Only purchases made on or before 30 June 2025 are eligible for Airpoints Dollars. If you forgot to add your Airpoints number at the time of purchase, please contact us as soon as possible before 30 June 2025 – we’ll do our best to help. We’re unable to issue Airpoints Dollars from 1 July 2025 onwards.

4. Why is the partnership ending?

This decision is part of a broader effort to manage costs smartly – without compromising the parts of your Smiths City experience that matter most. While the Airpoints part of the journey is coming to a close, our focus remains on delivering you ways to bring value home – like sharp deals, local stock, and proper local service.

Nothing else about your shopping experience with us is changing.

5. Will I still earn Airpoints Dollars on purchases made using long term finance?

Yes – as long as the purchase is made before 1 July 2025 and is eligible under our Airpoints terms and conditions.

6. Are gift card purchases eligible for Airpoints Dollars?

As before, gift card purchases themselves aren’t eligible for Airpoints Dollars – but if you use a gift card to pay for an eligible item before 1 July 2025, that purchase will earn Airpoints Dollars as usual.

7. Will I be able to redeem Airpoints Dollars at Smiths City in the future?

No – our partnership with Airpoints was earn-only. You’ve never been able to redeem Airpoints Dollars at Smiths City, and that won’t be changing.

8. Can I still use my Airpoints card at checkout?

You can keep using your Airpoints card right up until 30 June 2025. After that, you’re still welcome to shop with us (and we hope you do!) – just no scan needed.

9. What happens to my Airpoints Dollars if I return a purchase?

If you return a purchase that earned Airpoints Dollars, those points will be reversed – just like the sale, just like usual. If the Airpoints Dollars have already been added to your Airpoints account, they’ll be deducted. If they haven’t landed yet, they simply won’t be issued. Fair’s fair.

10. How can I check if I’ve received my Airpoints Dollars from Smiths City?

You can find out how many Airpoints Dollars you’ve earned on individual purchases with us when you sign into your online Airpoints account on Air New Zealand’s website.

Standard Airpoints Dollars earned at Smiths City will be loaded onto your Airpoints account within 7 working days of your eligible purchase(s) being paid for in full AND collected by or delivered to you. If your eligible purchase includes multiple items, this timeframe will apply based on when each item is collected by or delivered to you.

Please note that the timeframe for bonus Airpoints Dollars to be loaded onto your Airpoints account changes from 7 working days to 14 working days.

11. The Airpoints Dollars I earned at Smiths City aren’t showing in my Airpoints account. What do I do?

First, double-check the date of your purchase. We’ll load any standard Airpoints Dollars you earn at Smiths City onto your Airpoints account within 7 working days of your eligible purchase(s) being paid for in full AND collected by or delivered to you. If your eligible purchase includes multiple items, this timeframe will apply based on when each item is collected by or delivered to you.

We'll load any bonus Airpoints Dollars you earn at Smiths City onto your Airpoints account within 14 working days of the eligible items in your eligible purchase being collected by or delivered to you.

If it’s been less than these timeframes, hold tight. If that time has passed and your Airpoints Dollars still aren’t showing in your account, get in touch with your local store team. We’ll ask to see a copy of your receipt, order confirmation, or invoice to confirm that your purchase was eligible to earn Airpoints Dollars. If it was, we’ll confirm your details then follow up with Air New Zealand on your behalf.
