People
often ask me "How do I figure out which carpet I should buy" and although this is not an easy question to answer
there are many reliable and independent sources that can help in making this decision. I like people to read "The
Carpet Book" published by Wools of New Zealand and my clients seem to be a lot better informed to make the right decision about their
purchase.
Although there are no fixed rules any carpet can be installed in any area I usually start by asking what their home situation is because there are different
styles that seem to suit different types of families. We don't want to stereotype anyone but the guidelines that follow just seem to be what often
happens.
A lot of people we talk to have 2 adults and 2 kids in the household. The most popular type of carpet for this
situation is a Berber look level loop pile carpet like Castle Hill or
Natural Twill.
Often the family is a more mature with 2 adults and a couple of teenagers and we all know that although older kids
are a bit more careful about avoiding spills etc teenagers can be rougher on carpet in other ways. As this type of family is a bit more mature a more tailored
look is often desired and a tough carpet like Angus Tweed, Moods
of Monet, City Tones or Glentanner
Tweed may be chosen.
There seems to be plenty of demand for the trendy new textured loop pile products like Sisalaine and Cafe
Scenes and also for the traditional plain cut pile look of City Tones.
These seem to go with a variety of people from couples young, and not so young, right through to families.
At the other end of the quality scale we see a lot of people that want a
product at a reasonable price for a batch/crib, rental premises or perhaps just something to see them out a few years before they buy a really good carpet when
the kids move away from home. Popular carpets for this are carpets like Lakeside
which looks great but are really realistically priced.
Remember that price in most cases price relates to quality so as a rule of thumb you should always purchase the best carpet you can afford as although the price
is quickly forgotten the quality always remains. Trusting you will have a great buying experience at Smiths City.
