Construction began in April, 2002 on the Christchurch city site that is very close to Christchurch Hospital. The building of this wonderful
facility will be completed in February 2003.
Before construction could commence, the RMH Trustees in conjunction with Wilkie and Bruce Architects spent over 18 months working with the
Christchurch City Council to finalise the House plans, building consents and approvals for the actual construction of this significant family facility.
The construction of the 3 storey, 15 bedroom House is now well underway. Wilkie and Bruce are leading a team of experts, and with Fletcher
Construction will ensure that the final building is of high quality and fully equipped for the families who will stay at the House.
Once the actual construction phase is completed, it is then up to the Trustees working with Smiths City to create a warm, safe and
comfortable home
Through the use of colour, and residential style floor coverings and comfortable furnishings, the House will be fitted out as a real
home-away-from-home. Smiths City will be working with the Trust to provide the right furniture and fittings to create a comfortable home environment.
"We really want the House to be welcoming and relaxing,"says Vicki Buck, a Trustee. "some of the families will stay for a long
time and they need to feel as comfortable as they would in their own home."
The focus of all this effort is on completing the House by February 2003.
